CONFIDENTIAL

Dup on 92583/21/32

Sir,

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG,

7th July, 1932.

92583/21/32.

With reference to paragraph 2 or Sir William

Peel's confidential despatch of the 17th December, 1931, I have the honour to invite your attention to my despatch No. 328 of 30th June, 1932, forwarding an Ordinance for the resumption of the City Hall property.

2.

The circumstances which led to the introduction

of this Ordinance are set out in the Report of the Attorney

General which accompanied my despatch. in view of the fact that the Goverment has accepted the responsibility of providing accommodation for public amenities as part of the general scheme of town planning which will be undertaken in connection with this resumption, and has taken over the custody of the Museum and Library, it became unnecessary to regularize the position or the City Hall Committee, which ceased to function after the passing of the Ordinance. The Bill for the incorporation of the Committee has accordingly been abandoned.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient, humble servant,

4.D. Son 8 hort.

Officer Administering the Government.

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

SIR P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER, G.B.E., M.C., M.P.

etc.

etc.

etc.
